Building community connection and fostering personal growth through the sport of rowing

In partnership with Lehigh University Rowing, the Lehigh Valley Community Rowing program provides opportunities to access the sport of rowing through the Learn to  Row program, and develops athletes through juniors and masters rowing clinics.

Rowing encourages character building.  Athletes learn responsibility, leadership skills, teamwork, self-respect, self-confidence, commitment, and dedication all while having fun in a friendly, supportive environment. Welcome to rowing, where there is no bench.

Athletes of any age, experience, and fitness level are welcome! Join us on the water!

FALL ADULT ROWING INFORMATION FOR PARTICIPANTS

Welcome to Lehigh Valley Community Rowing! We are so excited to bring this wonderful opportunity to get out on the water back to the Lehigh Valley.
Rowing is a true lifetime sport and is something you can learn to do at any time. We will have a range of skill and experience levels among the participants in this group– from folks who have never set foot in a boat, to those who participated in our summer learn to row program, even some with college rowing experience from years ago– the Lehigh University rowing coaches are experienced teaching at all levels.
A few FAQs before our first session:
What should I bring?
A positive attitude, patience, and a willingness to make mistakes and to learn from them. And a water bottle!
What should I wear?
A t-shirt, non-baggy shorts or pants (tights/leggings/spandex is ideal), running shoes or sandals to wear down to the dock, a jacket and/or hat on rainy days.
What should I expect?
We will start bright and early on Tuesday morning at 5:30am at the Lehigh University Boathouse, located at Bucky Boyle Park in Allentown (10 Pump Place).
We will learn rowing basics together, including terminology, boat types, the rowing stroke/motion, roles/seats in the boat, and teamwork!
We row in all weather conditions. If the coaches deem it is unsafe to go out on the water due to a thunderstorm, water temperature, or current, we will practice indoors on ergs (rowing machines) in the boathouse.
Who should I reach out to with questions?
Coach Bob Michener at x03b22@lehigh.edu or
Sarah Barrett at sbarrett@ywcaallentown.org
